About
Who am I? Link to heading
I’m Romain Bureau, an independent DevOps engineer based in southwestern France, with 20 years of experience. I help small and mid-sized organizations build infrastructure that is reliable, under their control and easy to evolve, without unnecessary complexity.
My approach Link to heading
- Pragmatic: I pick the simplest tool that meets the need.
- Transparent: everything I set up is documented, reproducible and belongs to you.
- Built for autonomy: the goal is for your team to run the infrastructure without me.
- Lean and secure: fewer components, a smaller attack surface, no surprise bills.
What I do Link to heading
- Cloud infrastructure on AWS and Google Cloud: architecture, migration, cost optimization
- Infrastructure as code and automation (Terraform, ansible, gitops (flux, argocd), CI/CD)
- Containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, managed Kubernetes)
- Self-hosting and migration away from SaaS services
- Centralized authentication (OIDC / SSO), VPN and remote access
- Monitoring, backups
Background Link to heading
I have 20 years of experience in software and infrastructure. I started out as a backend developer, which gave me a solid understanding of how applications are built, deployed and run in production. I have worked full-time in DevOps since 2015, including at larger companies such as Contentsquare and MeilleursAgents.
Along the way, I’ve gained extensive hands-on experience with both Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud Platform. I can work with whichever provider you already use.
I also run my own infrastructure in real-world conditions: a k3s cluster, VPN, identity provider, filtering DNS and home automation. Between hyperscale cloud and self-hosting, I can help you find the right balance for your needs and budget.
